Anti-Trump protests break out across the country: 'Not my president'

TEHRAN (Basirat)- Thousands of protesters set fires, shut down highways and chanted "Not my president" as they marched in cities across the country in the wake of Donald Trump's win in the presidential election.

Thousands of protesters set fires, shut down highways and chanted "Not my president" as they marched in cities across the country in the wake of Donald Trump's win in the presidential election.

Demonstrations were reported in Boston, Chicago, Seattle, Washington, D.C., and other major urban areas, according to multiple reports.

The protests, which were fueled by social media and stretched through early Thursday morning, were mostly peaceful.

The New York Police Department told Business Insider late Wednesday that a crowd of nearly 10,000 people gathered outside Trump Tower in New York.

Participants chanted phrases including "Love trumps hate,” "P---- grabs back” and "Not my president,” Business Insider said.

Thousands of protesters in San Francisco, meanwhile, carried signs bearing messages like "Trump says go back, we say fight back” and "No to racism, sexism, war,” according to the news outlet.

Trump won a shocking victory over Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. Trump trailed Clinton by around 3 points in national polling averages as Election Day dawned Tuesday morning.

Clinton formally conceded the presidential contest Wednesday, calling for unity after her at-times bitter rivalry with Trump.
