Spokesman Dismisses UN Rapporteur's Human Rights Report on Iran as "Biased"
TEHRAN (Basirat): Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi categorically dismissed the UN special rapporteur Asma Jahangir's recent report on the situation of human rights in Iran as biased and politically-motivated.
"The position of the Islamic Republic of Iran with regard to special rapporteur
and the reports she presents to the UN General Assembly and the Human Rights
Council is a principled one based on the political and unjust nature of
mandating a human rights rapporteur for our country,” Qassemi said on Thursday.
Qassemi's remarks came in reaction to the latest report of Jahangir
on the situation of human rights in Iran.
"Accordingly, we believe that the reports issued by the UN special rapporteur
are based on an unjust, unfair, politicized and malevolent resolution
re-establishing the mandate of a special rapporteur on the situation of human
rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran, and so they lack credibility and
legitimacy,” the Iranian foreign ministry spokesman reiterated.
"We hold that undertaking politicized, dishonest, and double-standard-wise
approach to human rights by a small group of countries, not only undermines the
repute and position of the concept of human rights in the world but also exposes
further the scandalous face of the so-called human rights advocates and their
allies who all share dark histories of background in human rights issues,” he
added.
In relevant remarks in February 2014, Iran's Judiciary Spokesman Gholamhossein
Mohseni Ejeii underlined that the former UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights
in Iran, Ahmed Shaheed, had only parroted the allegations made by the Islamic
Republic’s enemies, but he will be allowed to visit Iran if he proves he is not
pursuing a biased attitude towards the Islamic Republic.
"For preparing his reports, this person (Ahmed Shaheed) goes to people who are
against Islamic Republic and have declared war on the people of this country;
were he impartial, he would not prepare his reports on this basis,” Mohseni
Ejeii said in his press conference.
He reiterated that the performance of the international organizations, specially
those that claim to be supporters of human rights is disgraceful as they
themselves have committed the worst crimes in the world and other countries.
"If a rapporteur proves his impartiality, we will not have any problem with
his/her visit to the country, as it has already been shown in similar cases,”
