TEHRAN(Basirat): Iran's defensive missile program is not negotiable, said the Foreign Ministry spokesman reacting to a report by a western newspaper alleging that Tehran has given the green light to compromise on the country's missile program.
'Iran's policy and stance on the country's defensive missile program is
quite clear and other countries are well aware of Tehran's stance in
this regard,' Bahram Qasemi said on Wednesday, rejecting reports on the
alleged agreement by Iran to go ahead with an "intensive and very
serious dialogue” on Iran's missile issue.
The London-based
daily Financial Times had quoted the German Foreign Ministry as saying
"The German, French and British foreign ministers, together with
Federica Mogherini, the EU’s foreign policy chief, agreed with Iran to
hold an "intensive and very serious dialogue” on Tehran’s missile
programme and regional influence.
'Iran strongly denies such a claim,' Qasemi said, calling the allegation as 'baseless'.
'Regardless
of the psychological campaigns, threats and approaches and stances
adopted by the United States and others, there has been no alteration in
the stance of the Islamic Republic,' he said.
'Iran has
repeatedly reiterated that its missile program has a defensive and
deterrent aspect and that it is not aimed at any country,' the spokesman
added.
Qasemi stressed that under such baseless and false claims, the enemies will not be able to change Iran's principled stance.
He
also praised the constructive and stabilizing regional policy followed
by Iran, warning against all the attempts by ill-wishers and extremists
aimed at undermining Iran's regional role as the forerunner of the fight
against terrorism.
