Speaking at a meeting with the visiting Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
in Tehran, Ayatollah Khamenei regarded the most important need of the Muslim
World today as increased closeness and synergy among Islamic countries.
"Closeness and cooperation among Islamic countries will surely pave the ground
for resolving the problems of our region; as a result, the Front of Arrogance,
with the U.S. at its top, is troubled by the cooperation and friendly relations
among Islamic countries and the formation of an Islamic power.”
He described the concern as the reason behind animosity of the U.S. towards
powerful Islamic countries and added, "The Islamic Republic of Iran and Turkey
are two powerful and dignified countries of the region and share the same
motivations for the Muslim World; thus, political and economic relations between
the two countries should expand.”
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution referred to the existing cooperation and
good relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Turkey since the coming
into power of the movement that advocates Islam in Turkey, and stressed, "The
commonalities should be reinforced as much as possible.”
Elsewhere at the meeting, Ayatollah Khamenei appreciated the positions taken by
Mr. Erdoğan regarding the matters of Myanmar.
Referring to the issue of Palestine, the Leader reiterated, "The Palestinian
cause is still very important and it should not be ignored even for a second.”
At the meeting, also attended by First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri, the
Turkish President regarded the situation of the region as critical, and hoped
that by cooperation between the Islamic countries, the problems of the region
will be resolved, Khamenei.ir website reported.
Erdogan then regarded lack of coherence and unity among Islamic countries as the
reason behind the current situation and stated, "As a result of the behavior of
the West towards independent Islamic countries, the situation has become
extremely sensitive. For the same reason, solidarity and fraternity should
expand, in particular, between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Turkey.”
