TEHRAN(Basirat): A senior Iranian Assyrian official said that the Iranian Christians do not need the fake sympathy of the so-called advocates of human rights.
'Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei
deeply respects the Christians residing in Iran,' Yonathan Betkolia,
Secretary General of Assyrian Universal Alliance, said on Monday at St.
Mary Church in this northwestern Iranian city.
'When I met Imam
Khomeini (the founder of the Islamic Revolution), he said that ''we are a
unified nation'' which means we live in a country where no one can
separate us from it. I'm more Iranian than any other Iranian,' said the
religious official.
'It's for 1,400 years that we, Assyrians, are peacefully living with our Muslim brothers,' the official said.
A
ceremony was held in the St. Mary Church, which is the world's second
oldest church, on Monday to celebrate the birth anniversary of Jesus
Christ, the messenger of peace and kindness, on December 25.
