TEHAN (Basirat)- the majority of those people who travel to countries like Saudi Arabia and Egypt for religious education play a major role in attracting potential recruits to join terrorist groups, particularly those who have received their education in centers like Saudi Arabia’s Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University, International Union of Muslim Scholars, World Assembly of Muslim Youths(WAMY), International Islamic Relief Organization(IIRO), and al-Haramain Foundation.

By Dr. Shoiab Bahman

Certain Arab states, Western governments, and the Zionist regime of Israel’s infiltration into Central Asia as well as their support for terrorism is one of the main reasons behind the spread of terrorism in the core region of the Asian continent. For instance, the Salafi-Wahhabi Saudis and Qataris have managed to gain foothold in some areas in Russia and also receive support from local authorities there. Development of a strong bond between governmental centers and Salafi-Wahhabi cells is clearly evident not only in Central Asia but also in northern Caucus and some areas near Volga River.

Additionally, the majority of those people who travel to countries like Saudi Arabia and Egypt for religious education play a major role in attracting potential recruits to join terrorist groups, particularly those who have received their education in centers like Saudi Arabia’s Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University, International Union of Muslim Scholars, World Assembly of Muslim Youths(WAMY), International Islamic Relief Organization(IIRO), and al-Haramain Foundation. These people have turned into radical preachers and play an important role in recurring forces for the battle in Syria. As an example, imam Malkov, the spokesman Tajikistan’s State Committee for National Security, believes that most of the people fighting in Syria are students who have received their education in other Islamic counties.

Another key point here is investment of foreign intelligence and spy services on lives of the poor in countries in Central Asia. At present, a substantial part of Tajik, Uzbek and Kirgiz labor migrants are under the influence of the Salafi-Wahhabi groups. The Salafi-Wahhabi groups operating in the region have a direct link with financing their victims. Today, the followers of the Salafi groups are very active in markets, foreign exchange markets, and firms in many regional countries, including Tajikistan, Kirgizstan, and Kazakhstan. In some cases, each of the Salafi-Wahhabi groups receives monthly financial aid, which has attracted those who are suffering from various economic and social problems.

But unlike what is commonly believed, Syria’s foreign rebels have turned to a war against the government of President Bashar Assad due to their religious incentives. This is not wrong at least about those who have travelled to the
Arab country from Central Asia. Although one cannot deny deviated religious motives, but the reality is that fighting for the sake of religion is just the surface of a complicated issue. In fact, the majority of these rebels are in Syria as they financially benefit from the ongoing crisis. They have joined the war in Syria for a dangling carrot in front of them. For this reason, intelligence services of the countries which are against Assad and also take home huge amount of petrodollars employ mercenaries from poor regions.

Additionally, false and fabricated news and information coming out of American and European media outlets on Syria have provoked Muslims’ feelings in Central Asia. The American and European media are unabatedly spreading false news and commentaries against Assad and in support of the opposition.
