Lavrov, Kerry Begin Talks on Syria in Geneva

TEHRAN (Basirat)- Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry met early Friday for talks on Syria at a Geneva hotel.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry met early Friday for talks on Syria at a Geneva hotel.

reuters.com reports:

The negotiations at Hotel President Wilson are expected to focus on the joint fight against terrorism, as well as on the Syrian political process.

A day earlier, Lavrov met with UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura.

Syria has been mired in civil war since 2011, with government forces loyal to President Bashar Assad fighting numerous opposition factions and extremist groups. On February 27, a US-Russia brokered ceasefire came into force in Syria. Terrorist groups, which maintain a heavy presence in Aleppo, are not part of the deal.
