West main loser of JCPOA violation

TEHRAN (Basirat)- AEOI Head Salehi expressed hope that the opposite side will avoid violation of the nuclear deal in which case they will be the main losers.

AEOI Head Salehi expressed hope that the opposite side will avoid violation of the nuclear deal in which case they will be the main losers.

Head of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi made the remarks on Monday morning on the margins of a ceremony held to commemorate martyred Iranian nuclear scientist Majid Shahriari.

On the decision made at the US congress to extend sanctions against Iran and the country's possible response, Salehi told the reporters that in line with the Leader's remarks, the Joint Comprehensive Plan Of Action's Supervisory Council has held a session scrutinizing the Iran Sanctions Act (ISA) considering all possible outcomes in case the Act will be extended or even if it becomes operational in later stages.

"Passing of a law follows certain procedures in the US as it needs to be approved by the Senate after being endorsed by the Congress and needs to be signed by the American president before it becomes operational," he continued.

He noted that that JCPOA will be violated if all the stages are carried through asserting "even Americans themselves admit that these actions will be deems as a breach of promise."

The official stressed that, at the order of President Rouhani, all necessary anticipations have been made by JCPOA's Supervisory Council as regard the possibility of extending nuclear-related sanctions against Iran.

In response to a question on Iran's strategy for reversing to pre-negotiation era, Salehi said "given that we never trusted the other side, all necessary predictions were done early in the course of nuclear talks."

AEOI head reiterated that, as the Leader has also noted, Iran is capable of reaching a significant level of uranium enrichment over one and a half years though we never opt for such an option unless JCPOA is violated.

"The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) has formed a new paradigm in political developments which benefited everyone including Iran, the opposite sides as well as regional countries and the whole world," highlighted Salehi voicing optimism that, following the recent remarks made by the Leader, the West will remain committed to all obligations.

He maintained that West will be the main loser if JCPOA is violated since the world's public opinion is aware that Iran has taken all possible measures to resolve the issue as well as that the opposite side has prevented proper implementation of the deal by reneging on earlier promises.

"We hope that the new US president will act based on facts and realities as he will certainly not be able to abolish and international treaty which enjoys the backing of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

Ali Akbar Salehi also hoped that the other side will not violate the JCPOA since Iran will take necessary technical measures in response.

He also rejected Wall Street Journal report on Iran-West fresh talks saying "every now and then, new issues are raised by the West though Iran's nuclear negotiations were over long ago."

"Necessary announcements were made as regards Iran's supply of heavy water," said the official recalling "we have deployed 11 tons of heavy water to Oman and we are waiting to receive purchase orders from international buyers."
