Women worst affected by Middle East crisis

TEHRAN (Basirat) :Iran's ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations says that women have suffered the most from the recent crises in the Middle East.

Expressing his sorrow over the continued crisis in the region, Gholamali Khoshroo made the remarks on Tuesday, while addressing a UN Security Council meeting held in New York.

"Women in the Middle East region live with a huge fear resulting from the Takfiri ideologies used by extremist and terrorist groups,” he said. "Terrorist groups systematically target women with methods such as slavery, sexual assault, and sexual exploitation."

He added that exposure to sexual violence results in women losing their opportunities for social and economic development.

Iran’s UN envoy went on to note that the Tel Aviv regime’s policies towards the people of Palestine, especially women, are just one example of how women’s rights are being violated.
