"Participatory democracy" Iran’s main strategic depth
THRRAN,(Basirat)- Today, Iran’s power has extended beyond its borders and should not only be seen in countries like Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen and Bahrain. In fact, the Islamic Republic’s true might needs to be observed in its democratic structure of political system.
People’s massive participation in the polls left both domestic and foreign witnesses in great shock. They were standing in long queues outside polling stations before the beginning of the votes to contribute to one of the most crucial political platforms of their country.
Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei had called on the people before the event to disappoint the greedy enemies by their large turnout. The huge turnout of people in the early hours of the elections as well as the long queues at the polling stations until nearly midnight showed that the Iranian nation trusted the Leader and responded to his call one more time.
Presence of more than 33 million people in the votes demonstrated that the religious democracy thought has been institutionalized in the Islamic Republic and that people are seeking their demands through such a democracy.

Moreover, the polls were held in a calm and secure climate in a volatile region. This indicates that such a stability is indebted to the Islamic Republic Establishment in 1979.
The Islamic Republic, which celebrated the 37th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution on February 11, is now turned into the most powerful country in the Western Asia; it is also the most important player in the region’s political developments. This political might has materialized at a time when the Western Asia region is going through its most chaotic days. Proxy wars, conflicts created by Western arrogant powers’ interventionist policies and promotion of the ideology of Takfiri thugs which are backed by global imperialism and Zionism, have undermined peace and security in the region.
In order to further learn about the birthplace of this security and strength, we need to trace its origins in the fact that Iran’s political system is based upon popular will.
