A statement issued by the Palestine Red Crescent Society recounts that the Friday attack staged by "Zionist forces” against the Palestinian protesters injured 217 in West Bank and al –Quds (Jerusalem). The announcement adds that a number of Palestinians have been shot with live ammunition.
The same source also acknowledges that at least 16 Palestinian protesters have been shot in Gaza strip.
The protests broke out after the US President Trump signed a decree on Wednesday ordering US Department of State to move US embassy to al-Quds (Jerusalem) in a bid to recognize the Islamic holy city as the capital of Israel, a self-proclaimed state forcefully established in 1947 and not recognized by many countries in the world.
Earlier, Palestinians leaders' called for a so-called ‘day of rage’ after Friday prayer, to express their disagreement with US President Donald Trump's decision, local media reported. Hamas' leader even called for a new intifada – an uprising against Israel.
Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of the political bureau of the Palestinian Hamas movement declared Friday a "day of rage" and the beginning an uprising over the US move.
An emergency UN Security Council has been called for this Friday to discuss the Israeli-Palestinian peace process in light of the US policy reversal, condemned by the UN chief and world leaders.
