TEHRAN(Basirat): The United Nations chief urged the United States to 'maintain its commitments' to the 2015 nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

'I encourage the United States to maintain its commitments to the plan
and to consider the broader implications for the region before taking
any further steps,' Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in a report
he presented to the UN Security Council, a US media report said.
Referring
to the JCPOA, Guterres said the international deal is 'the best way' to
guarantee the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program.
'Similarly,
I encourage the Islamic Republic of Iran to carefully consider the
concerns raised by other participants in the plan,' the CBS News quoted
the UN chief as saying.
Guterres added that the US President
Donald Trump's Oct 13 approach against Iran created a 'considerable
uncertainty' about the future of the nuclear deal between Iran and the
six world powers - US, UK, France, Russia, China and Germany.
Although
the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has repeatedly approved
Iran's commitment to the JCPOA signed in July 14, 2015, the US president
decertified Iran's compliance with the international deal in an address
in October.
Trump's approach has been criticized by many countries, international bodies, political communities and world media.
High
Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security
Policy Federica Mogherini in her reaction to the US move said that the
JCPOA is the fruit of 12 years of diplomacy which plays significant role
in preventing the Non-proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and
maintaining security of the region.
