Syrian Parl. speaker:

Damascus recent victories disproved Western claims of fighting terror

DAMASCUS (Basirat) – Speaker of the People’s Assembly Mohammad Jihad al-Laham said Syrian Army’s victories aided by Iran and Russia have disproved Western claims, particularly the international coalition, on fighting terrorism.

He made the remark in a meeting with Chairman of the Council and Internal Affairs Committee of the Iranian Shura Council Amir Khojasteh in Damascus on Sunday.

Al-Laham reaffirmed that Syrian Army’s recent achievements have undermined ISIL capabilities and are opening the door wide towards clearing the entire Syrian territory of the terrorists; "these achievements will facilitate the political resolution to Syrian crisis through dialog and the people’s participation in the reconstruction of their country and their commitment to national responsibility,” he said.

He noted that atrocities committed by the Zionist regime against Palestinians and Lebanese are not at all different from those committed by the ISIL or Saudi Arabia against the Yemeni nation.

He further expressed Syria’s appreciation of the continued political, economic and military assistance provided by the leadership and people of Iran to their counterparts in Syria.

Amir Khojasteh, for his part, stressed that Iran will continue providing all forms of support to Syria until it defeats terrorist forces and achieves final victory.

Praising the Syrian Army for its recent achievements in the course of its war against terrorism, particularly the army’s retaking of Palmyra, Khojasteh voiced confidence that Syria is approaching victory and affirmed that Iran has started preparing plans for the reconstruction process in Syria.

Khojasteh also held a meeting with Prime Minister Wael al-Halaqi, during which the two sides conferred on closer cooperation and plans for the reconstruction process through investment by Iranian companies,(MNA) reported.
