Trump's 'gamble': al-Quds decision may cause war - Iran's Parliament Speaker

TEHRAN(Basirat): The Speaker of Iran’s Parliament Ali Larijani held a bilateral meeting with Russia’s State Duma (lower house) Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin on the sidelines of the first regional international conference devoted to anti-terror fight and cooperation in Pakistan’s capital of Islamabad.

At the meeting, Larijani spoke about Trump's Jerusalem al-Quds move as well as Syrian peace settlement talks, Sputnik reported.

"The United States' decision to recognize al-Quds as the capital of Israel will provoke aggression and war between Palestinians and Israelis,” he said.

"People do not want to stay silent; there will be a rebellion, a war. This is a gamble, it is high time for US President Donald Trump to understand what is happening," Larijani added.

The Iranian parliament's speaker pointed out that the United States was trying to split the Middle Eastern region. He also refuted US remarks that Washington had defeated terrorism in Syria.

"That was you [United States], who created it [terrorism] there," Larijani added.

"Tehran is not expecting a breakthrough in Syrian settlement at Geneva talks and views the Astana process as more prospective,” he also said.

"I think there will be no miracle at Geneva talks. Geneva process is only slowing down the political settlement. Astana process [on the contrary] is a breeding ground for settlement," Larijani went on to say.

The lawmaker also noted that the presence of the United States in northern Syria would only have destructive consequences.
