Washington’s New Formula for Confronting Iranian Nation

Tehran (Basirat) :Trump will be trying in the coming weeks to establish a direct link between the JCPOA and the recent unrest in Iran in order to set the stage for exerting further economic and political pressure on the Islamic Republic.

The Persian-language Basirat website has, in an article, weighed in on the United States' attempts to take advantage of the recent unrest and riots in Iran and create the impression that it is sympathizing with Iranians! The full text of the analytical piece follows.
In recent days, we have been witnessing US President Donald Trump and his Cabinet’s growing support for the riots in Iran. Their backing comes as Trump called Iranians a "terrorist nation” and used the fabricated name "The Arabian Gulf” instead of "The Persian Gulf” in a controversial speech some time ago. Under such circumstances, one has to be pessimistic about what Trump calls support for the Iranian nation’s freedom!  Here, there are a few points which should be taken into account:

Washington’s New Formula for Confronting Iranian Nation
1. The Trump administration wants to establish a direct link between the JCPOA and Iran riots. In other words, the White House intends to regard the JCPOA as a dependent political variable, not an independent legal phenomenon. Accordingly, there is a possibility that the US will withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal.
In this regard, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said Washington has several options on the table in order to react to the recent unrest in Iran, including sanctions and making a decision on whether or not to continue the suspension of bans on Iran. She said Trump is yet to make a decision on renewing temporary waivers for the sanctions. She said the Trump administration may not continue to waive the sanctions in January 2018 based on the JCPOA, and hence, might completely pull out of the nuclear deal.
One of the key proponents of Trump’s plans in this regard is US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley. Former US envoy to the UN John Bolton has also advised Trump to withdraw from the JCPOA as soon as possible and re-impose unilateral sanctions on Iran as a sign of support for the rioters. American authorities are biding their time to inject economic discontent into society in order to stir up public opinion and lend more support to the unrest. This comes as the Iranian nation has prudently watched Washington’s behavior over the past 4 decades and, like before, will not allow the White House and its cronies to interfere in Iran’s affairs.
In recent days, Haley has tried to play a key role in supporting protests and riots in Iran. As part of her meddlesome actions and comments, Haley called on the UN Security Council and Human Rights Council to hold emergency meetings on Iran.
"We must not be silent. The people of Iran are crying out for freedom,” she said!
She also claimed that the protests held in Iran were not organized by foreign elements. Haley also claimed that Washington is seeking to get the voice of protesters in Iran heard loud and clear to the world!
2. There is no doubt that Haley and other members of the Trump administration back efforts to spread unrest in Iran. Still, Haley’s claim of supporting Iranians’ freedom and their demands come as she has, so far, turned no stone unturned to mount full-scale confrontation against Iranians. Haley’s remarks drew reaction from Iran’s mission at the UN. Iran’s ambassador to the UN, in a statement, dismissed Haley’s show at the world body as "disgusting crocodile tears.”
"The threats and nonsense comments made by the US ambassador to the UN are regarded as support for fueling violence and unrest in Iran. Iran’s security and stability have depended on its own people over the past four decades, and the Iranian people, despite the ballyhoo raised recently, have safeguarded these rights and accomplishments and will not allow violence and destruction to wreck these inherent rights and historical achievements because the Iranian nation’s historical memory has not forgotten the memories of the crimes committed against and humiliation imposed on Iran by the US-backed dictatorial [former Iraqi] regime.
Haley’s anti-Iran comments drew reaction from Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.
"There is no doubt that the US delegation has something to tell the world,” Zakharova wrote on Facebook ironically.
"For example, Nikki Haley can share America’s experience in breaking up protests, going into detail about how, say, the mass arrests and the stifling of the Occupy Wall Street movement happened or how Ferguson was ‘quelled’,” wrote Zakharova.
3. Another point is the incorrect and false presuppositions announced by American and Israeli authorities regarding the recent unrest in Iran.
In one case, US Vice President Mike Pence claimed that the Trump administration will make the same mistake that the previous administration (Obama's) made about protesters in Iran! Also, the former Israeli ambassador to the US said in contentious remarks that Obama did not support riots in Iran in 2009 in order to help the nuclear agreement bear fruit. Such comments are merely false allegations. It is lost on no one that in the post-election unrest in Iran in 2009, the US and the Israeli regime joined hands to support the rioters. In this regard, there are many documents some of which have been published and drawn the attention of the Iranian public. Therefore, in this equation, there is no difference between the Republican and Democratic parties, and, between the administrations of Trump and Obama for that matter.
Support by individuals such as John Kerry, Hillary Clinton and even Bernie Sanders for the recent riots and unrest in Iran shows that the leaders and senators of both major American parties abide by a macro-strategy enshrined in the United States' foreign policy, and that is full-scale confrontation with the Iranian nation and establishment!
