'The worst campaign on terror and killing people is being organized in Washington': Defense Minister

TEHRAN(Basirat): The growth of terrorism in the region, as the result of monopolistic and opportunist approach towards international security, will bring a series of crises for humanity, Iran's defense minister said on Wednesday.
Iran's Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami who was speaking in the 7th Moscow Conference on International Security (MCIS), said, 'The worst campaign on terror and killing people is being organized in Washington.'

It is a process that is based on the experiences of the past 20 years and it can bring 20 more years of geopolitical crises for mankind, he said.

The apparent role of terrorist and extremist groups, such as Al Qaeda and Daesh (ISIS) in the recent two decades and in the sophisticated wars in various regions of the world, particularly in Iraq and Syria, is a clear indication to the bitter truth, the minister said.

'Managing Daesh instead of confronting it, occupying Palestine and the continuation of the crimes by the Zionist regime, as well as the racist policies of the regime in the occupied territories, and provoking the Muslims, intensified by Trump's policies, such as moving the US embassy to Quds, all are contributing to accelerate the process,' he said.

He accused Trump's administration as an obstacle to restoring stability in the region.

'Some governments in the region, instead of relying on intraregional commonalities, unity and local security, have sought refuge at opportunist powers to buy security in order that they can continue their illegitimate throne,' the Iranian defense minister said.

'There would be no prospect for security in the region, unless the pain is healed,' he said.

The 7th MCIS, being held in Moscow on April 4-5, will focus on recent defeats of terrorists in Syria and will be attended by defense ministers, chiefs of staff, senior commanders as well as officials of international organizations from more than 80 countries.
