Boroujerdi:Parliament to set conditions for passing CFT bill

"If we agree to pass the bill on Iran's accession to the International Convention for the Suppression of Financing of Terrorism, it will be based on certain conditions,” said Alaeddin Boroujerdi, the Chairman of Iran's Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Commission on Saturday.

The Iranian law-maker made the remarks on the sidelines of the Saturday session of National Security and Foreign Policy Commission which was dedicated to discussing the bill.

"The US, the Zionist regime and Saudi Arabia and many other countries are after imposing more limitations on the Islamic Republic of Iran through FATF-related regulations,” said the lawmaker regarding Iran's considerations for passing the bill.

"However, we support liberation movements all over the world based on our Constitution and believe that there is a fundemental difference between terrorist groups like ISIL, which were created and broadly funded by US and its allies, and political bodies which are defending the territorial integrity of their country,” he added.

"All the MPs and the representatives of ministries and organizations attending the session are concerned about the national interests of our country but we are facing a world with defined structures and 188 countries have joined this convention,” added Mr. Boroujerdi.

The bill of "Accession of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the International Convention for the Suppression of Financing of Terrorism" is one of the three FATF-related bills that the Parliament has been reviewing recently. The bill on amendment to the Anti-Money Laundering Law and the bill on amendment to the Law of Combating the Financing of Terrorism have already been given the green light.
