In a statement on Friday, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi slammed the
US state secretary’s "false and baseless comments” that have turned into
repetitious and tedious attempts at shifting the blame on others.
"Such false remarks and brazen shifting of blame could not cover up the
destructive and destabilizing role of the US, which is interfering in the
affairs of our region from thousands of kilometers away,” he stressed.
The US must be held accountable for its destructive and wrong policies before
the world and the people of the region, Qassemi added.
He also decried the US push to create new crises and exploit the assets of
regional Muslim states with the worn-out tactic of Iranophobia.
It is no secret any more that the Yemeni people, particularly women, children
and the elderly, are suffering from the relentless airstrikes by Saudi Arabia
that are carried out with the greenlight of the US administration and its
financial and arms support for the aggressive countries, the spokesman said.
He also warned the "perpetrators of war crimes” that one day they will have to
stand trial in competent courts.
On Wednesday, US State Secretary Mike Pompeo described Iran as the "greatest
threat” in Syria.
Testifying before the US Senate appropriations committee, Pompeo delivered a
hardline view on Iran and Hezbollah, accusing the Lebanese resistance group of
plotting against the United States.
