"The two countries reached a consensus on a comprehensive military framework
for mutual cooperation in the field of security and counter-terrorism and the
exchange of information,” Major General Baqeri and General Bajwa said in a
joint statement issued at the end of a three-day visit to Pakistan by the
Iranian top commander.
"The framework will focus specifically on the development of border coordination
to achieve the goal of a peaceful and trade-friendly border and prevent illicit
phenomena such as human and illicit drugs smuggling,” the statement added.
The two sides also reaffirmed their commitment and shared responsibility to
promote and positively contribute to peace and stability across the region,
especially against growing threat posed by transnational terrorist groups like
Daesh (ISIS or ISIL), according to the statement.
Major General Baqeri arrived in Pakistan on Monday for an official visit.
In remarks released after a meeting with Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain in
Islamabad on Tuesday, Major General Baqeri said during his visit to Pakistan, he
has discussed topics such as military education, pilot training, military drills
and links between the two countries’ defense industries.
Also on Tuesday, Baqeri held talks with Chief of Pakistani Naval Staff Admiral
Zafar Mahmood Abbasi on ways to boost maritime cooperation between the two
countries and hold more joint naval drills.
