The Arabic-language website of Sputnik reported that the Russia-made Tor-M2U
short-range air defense missile systems (ADMS) have been sent to Russia-run
Humeimim airbase in the coastal province of Lattakia after the Russian Defense
Ministry warned about a possible massive missile attack by the US-led coalition
on Syria.
It further said that a cargo plane of the Russian army had already arrived in
Syria.
The report said that the military plane had likely transferred S300 air defense
systems to Syria that is capable of targeting semi-heavy projectiles and
repelling heavy air raids.
The AMN reported on Friday that Vladimir Korolev, Russian Navy
Commander-in-Chief, announced the joint drills of Navy and Air force to take
place for one week and start on September 1.
"From September 1st till September 8th for the first time in the modern history
of Russia the Navy and Air force drills will take place in the Mediterranean
sea. The ships of the Northern, Baltic, Black Sea fleets and the Caspian
flotilla, as well as long-range aircraft, are being brought to the exercise, as
well as long-range aircraft. The control of the drills is performed by the Major
Command of Navy. For this purposes the control center of the Major Command will
be used, equipped with automatically control system and modern communication
devices,” he said.
Korolev added that 26 military ships and vessels of the Navy, including two
submarines, as well as 34 aircraft will take part in the upcoming drills in the
Mediterranean Sea.
He also stressed that "practical missile and artillery shooting” will be
performed.
