Clinton: US Should Not Declare War on Islam After Orlando Massacre
TEHRAN(Basirat)-Demonization of religion following a mass shooting in Orlando, Florida would be advantageous to terrorists, presumptive US Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton said on Monday.
Clinton added that the United States must defeat "radical jihadist terrorism or radical Islamism, whatever you call it."
"We cannot demonize, demagogue and declare war on an entire religion. That is just dangerous and it plays into the hands of ISIS [Daesh] and other jihadist terrorists," Clinton stated in an interview with MSNBC.
Clinton’s opponent, Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump, called the Orlando shooting a demonstration of Islamism and called for mosque surveillance in the United States.
Early on Sunday morning, a shooter identified as US national Omar Mateen, opened fire in a crowded gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida killing 49 people and injuring at least 53 others. The 29 year-old shooter was previously investigated by US law enforcement for possible ties to terrorist organization.
On Monday, Orlando police chief John Mina said that Orlando shooter pledged allegiance to Daesh.
