Iran Ready to Export Drugs, Medical Equipment to Cuba
TEHRAN (Basirat): High-ranking Iranian and Cuban officials in a meeting in Tehran on Tuesday explored ways to further expand the two countries' cooperation in medical fields.
The meeting was held at the demand of the Cuban ambassador to Tehran with
Iranian Deputy Health Minister and Head of the Food and Drug Organization Mehdi
Pirsalehi.
During the meeting, the two sides studied different ways for the Cuban companies
to purchase the needed drugs and medical equipment from the Iranian
pharmaceutical firms.
Pirsalehi, for his part, referred to Iran's good capabilities in the production
of drugs and medical equipment, stressing the country's preparedness to further
expand ties and export medicine to Cuba.
Iran has taken wide strides in science and technology, particularly in medical
and medicinal fields, in recent years.
An official said in February that the medical equipment and devices produced by
Iranian researchers are exported to tens of world states, as the country
unveiled a new home-made drug for patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis.
"At present, Iran's medical equipment is exported to 40 world states. Some
target countries have demanded Iran's products with 'Made in Iran' brand and
some of them have asked for launching production lines of the products in their
countries. Also, some goods are produced for a number of countries based on
their orders and the product is presented under a different brand," Secretary of
the Union of Iran's Exporters of Medical Equipment Reza Kompani said.
He added that the West European states, Germany and Italy were among the
countries which import Iran's medical equipment.
