Iran, China Agree to Develop Cooperation in Publishing Books

TEHRAN (Basirat): Iran’s Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults (IIDCY) and Peace Publishing House of China signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Friday to further develop cooperation in areas of joint production and publication of books and cultural products.

Director General of Public Relations and International Affairs of the IIDCY Hamed Rahnema, and Head of Peace Publishing House of China Lin Yun signed the MoU today in Iranian capital city at the venue of the Tehran International Book Fair where the Special Guest Program of the exhibition is devoted to China. 

According to the memorandum, the two institutes will now be more widely involved in the sale and distribution of books and other works of their own.

In signing ceremony, the Iranian official highlighted that the association has been a pioneer in copyright in Iran and has so far purchased more than 200 books from foreign publishers and sold more than 400 titles to them. 

He then introduced various sections of the IIDCY and presented a report on the activities and programs of this cultural complex in Iran. 

Rahnema said that the institute as a multi-purpose organization started publishing books for children and adolescents since 1965 and now has 1012 artistic cultural, artistic centers throughout Iran that provide cultural services to children and teenagers.

In this ceremony, head of China's Peace Publishing House Lin Yun noted that the House is the subsidiary of the Jiangxi Publishing Group in China, which was founded in 1993 and has more than 130 subsidiaries and 10,000 employees. 

The Publishing House was founded in 1985 and operates in the field of publishing books for children and adolescents for the age group up to the age of 18, and publishes 300 new titles and re-publishes 600 titles each year.

Early in August, Deputy Secretary-General of Chinese Cultural Trade Promotion Association Song Chunfeng called for broadening of mutual cooperation between Beijing and Tehran in different cultural fields.

"The two nations' cultural cooperation was not satisfactory although suitable cultural activities have been made between the two capitals over the past few years," he said on August 05, 2018.

He underlined that the rich and common culture of Iran and China as well as their cultural cooperation have always reinforced the bases for their bilateral relations.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Chinese official invited Iran to attend all future art exhibitions in China, including the 3rd international cultural investment conference which is slated to be held in China.
