“We are not seeking to close the Strait of Hormuz but if anybody is going to make the strait insecure, we will harshly confront him,” asserted Major General Mohammad Baqeri, Iran’s armed forces chief of staff.
The remarks by the top general followed U.S. decision to end sanctions waivers on Iran’s oil exports. The decision is set to go into force in early May.
Baqeri added that if Iran would not be able to export oil from the Strait of Hormuz then no other country can do it.
“If Iran’s oil is not going to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, definitely others’ oil will not pass through the strait either,” Baqeri asserted.
