Six sercivemen died in the crash of military helicopter crash in northeastern Turkey’s Giresun province, according to local media.
Six soldiers died and two were critically injured in a military
helicopter crash in northeastern Turkey’s Giresun province, Turkish
media reported Tuesday.
The death and injuries reported by Turkey's Daily Sabah
English-language newspaper follow claims that low flying over highlands
in the province's Alucra district may have caused the accident. Other
initial findings allege poor weather conditions were to blame for the
crash of the Sikorsky S-70.
The
unconfirmed findings claim that anywhere from 11 to 15 personnel were
on board the helicopter, including a brigadier major, a colonel, and two
majors. They were said to be heading to regional outposts to take part
in celebrations marking the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
Prime Minister Binali Yildirim was said to contact the Turkish Armed
Forces for further information, while Deputy Prime Minister Nurettin
Canikli was headed to the scene of the crash.
