After contentious day within party, key progressive figures took stage on Monday night.

theguardian.com reports:

The Democratic National Convention (DNC) kicked off on Monday, with prime time speeches expected from Bernie Sanders, Michelle Obama, and Elizabeth Warren.

The convention got off to a rocky start. "Every time Hillary Clinton’s name is mentioned on the stage [...] the crowd is overtaken by a wave of boos, and countervailing cheers," the Guardian reported at its live blog.

Sanders reportedly texted his delegates imploring them to stop floor protests. "I ask you as a personal courtesy to me to not engage in any kind of protest on the floor," the text read. "It is of utmost importance you explain this to your delegations."

In reverse order of how they appeared, the speeches of Sanders, Warren, and Obama follow.
