Iran Regards Security of Region as Its Own: President Rouhani

TEHRAN (Basirat): Iranian President Hassan Rouhani reiterated the country’s policy to boost peace and stability in the Middle East region and said the Islamic Republic sees the promotion of regional security in line with its own interests.

Iran Regards Security of Region as Its Own: President Rouhani

Addressing a gathering of Iranian officials, the ambassadors of Islamic countries and the foreign guests of the 32nd edition of the International Islamic Unity Conference in Tehran on Sunday, President Rouhani highlighted the US hostilities towards the Iranian nation and said the enemies’ problem with Iran is not related to the country’s nuclear program or the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
"They want us to close our eyes to whatever they do in the region,” he said, adding that the enemies want Iran to keep silent on their moves to oppress regional countries, including Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan.
However, Rouhani added, "Our path is crystal clear; we regard our neighbors in the region as our brothers and see regional security in line with our own security.”
The Iranian president went on to say that the Islamic Republic extends "the hand of friendship" to all Muslims.
The 32nd Islamic Unity Conference kicked off in Tehran on Saturday with representatives from 100 countries in attendance.
The annual gathering was held on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in order to lay the ground for stronger unity and solidarity among Muslims and provide appropriate solutions for their problems.
In recent years, the Middle East has been plagued with Takfiri terrorist groups like Daesh (ISIL or ISIS), which are believed to have been created and supported by the West and some regional Arab countries.
The terrorist groups, which claim to be Islamic but whose actions are anything but, have been committing heinous crimes not only against non-Muslims but mostly against Muslims in the region.
Iraq and Syria have been among the countries gripped by terrorism.
Iran, a close ally of the two countries, has supported their legitimate governments in their campaign against foreign-backed militancy and terrorism
