Addressing a gathering of Iranian officials, the ambassadors of Islamic
countries and the foreign guests of the 32nd edition of the International
Islamic Unity Conference in Tehran on Sunday, President Rouhani highlighted the
US hostilities towards the Iranian nation and said the enemies’ problem with
Iran is not related to the country’s nuclear program or the Joint Comprehensive
Plan of Action (JCPOA).
"They want us to close our eyes to whatever they do in the region,” he said,
adding that the enemies want Iran to keep silent on their moves to oppress
regional countries, including Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan.
However, Rouhani added, "Our path is crystal clear; we regard our neighbors in
the region as our brothers and see regional security in line with our own
security.”
The Iranian president went on to say that the Islamic Republic extends "the hand
of friendship" to all Muslims.
The 32nd Islamic Unity Conference kicked off in Tehran on Saturday with
representatives from 100 countries in attendance.
The annual gathering was held on the occasion of the birth anniversary of
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in order to lay the ground for stronger unity and
solidarity among Muslims and provide appropriate solutions for their problems.
In recent years, the Middle East has been plagued with Takfiri terrorist groups
like Daesh (ISIL or ISIS), which are believed to have been created and supported
by the West and some regional Arab countries.
The terrorist groups, which claim to be Islamic but whose actions are anything
but, have been committing heinous crimes not only against non-Muslims but mostly
against Muslims in the region.
Iraq and Syria have been among the countries gripped by terrorism.
Iran, a close ally of the two countries, has supported their legitimate
governments in their campaign against foreign-backed militancy and terrorism
