Hossein Shirzad, the deputy minister of Agriculture-Jihad, said according to the previous notifications on controlling the crisis of the tomato overproduction and the state debt settlement, the government will pay back the total debts of the farmers by March, 19th, 2020.
Shirzad, who is also the CEO of the Central Organization for Rural Cooperatives of Iran (CORC), said despite the current challenging situation for banks in offering financial facilities and loans, the CORC has succeeded to settle the debts of the tomato farmers.
Elaborating on the detailed financial procedure of the debt settlement, Shirzad pointed that from September 2019, about 335000 tons, amounting over 3326 billion rials (1$=145000 rials) have been purchased from farmers in 13 provinces nationwide, adding that the CORC has now paid back the debts.
